About the Festival

The festival started out in 1979 as a sidewalk sale. Several merchants got together and decided that it might be fun to put their merchandise outside the store for a day to help promote their business and maybe get a tan. During the first few years musicians would drop by and entertain anyone who wanted to listen. Since the entertainment seemed to help draw people to the block the merchants started inviting entertainers to join them at this new annual event. With the sidewalk sale growing each year the merchants decided to expand this one-day event into a two and then three-day festival. The charm of 29 years ago still remains even though this one time sidewalk sale now draws close to 60,000 people over three days. Some of the magic of this event is that it is a very family oriented fun summer outing complete with kiddy rides, Super Slide, bungee tramp, face painting, body art and more. Visitors will find continuous entertainment on the Center Stage including a morning Kids Magic show, Blues, Swing, A cappella, Smooth Jazz, Motown/R&B, Rock and more. There is even a pancake breakfast from 7 AM till 10 AM each day. With over seventy crafts and food vendors it will be hard to decide which to do first, eat some of the traditional mouth-watering festival delights or visit the crafts, jewelry and pottery vendors. Each year the festival donates a portion of the proceeds to a worthy charity or non-profit. In past years donations were made to the Washington Street Community Center, The Denver Street School, Make A Wish, Food Bank of The Rockies, Max Fund, Metro Denver Partners and others. We will continue to support many more fine charitable organizations with high profile exposure and a donation.
