About the Festival

One of Denver's premier block festivals, The Old South Gaylord Memorial Day Weekend Festival is now in its 30th year. The festival features "World Class Music" on the Center Stage. Guests and attendees will find many booths of fine art, handmade pottery, fine jewelry, designer clothing and state of the art products. The Children's areas at the North and South end host kiddie rides, pony rides, clothing and special interest areas. Older "kids" will find more challenging entertainment such as a bungee tramp and climbing wall at the South end. Festival patrons will also enjoy a great variety of food vendors and some of Denver's finest restaurants.

The one block business area of Old South Gaylord thrives as Denver’s second-oldest shopping district. Nestled within one of Denver’s most charming neighborhoods, Old South Gaylord is rich in character. Historic buildings, award-winning restaurants, unique boutiques and many specialty shops provide a spirit of “old time” warmth along with a modern sense of community.

In the late 1970’s, the merchants association envisioned a celebration to launch the summer season. In it, members of the community would gather to enjoy local art, music and food. The “Old South Gaylord Memorial Day Weekend Festival” became a great success and, at present, serves not only as a cultural focus of Washington Park neighborhoods, but draws a city-wide audience. This event provides a relaxing, entertaining setting for all ages and presents exhibitors and sponsors with an intimate forum in which to present their handmade products, crafts and arts.

Another important part of the festival is our commitment to give back to the community in substantial ways. Each year the Merchants Association chooses a charity to support. This local charity receives special advertising mentions on our fliers and inclusion in our print media campaign. We also provide our chosen charity with complementary booth space for good visibility during the festival. Either before or after the festival a gift to be raffled or a portion of the proceeds are donated to the charity to help them continue the excellent work within our community. Past recipients include, Washington Park Early Learning Center, Denver’s SafeHouse, The Birds of Prey Foundation, Colo. AIDS Project, CAP The Rockies, Denver Partners, Bayaud Industries, Food Bank of the Rockies, Make A Wish, and this years Non Profit will be announced soon. Special donations are made each year to South High School JROTC For their invaluable service and commitment to the festival.
